Create a matching card game using the vegetables you are planning to plant
Get in your garden box groups
Start by writing the name of a plant you are planning to plant in your garden
Research its companions - plants it helps, and plants that are helped by it
Are you already planning on planting some of these?
Create a new card for the companion and research it's companion plants.Â
Repeat until you have an even number of cards (20-30)
Test your game, you made need to limit or revise the companions
Add colour and sketches to make your game interesting and engaging to play
Trade games with another group and try to play
Reflect on your SFQ Garden Design and make any adjustments

** You may want to pair your vegetable with only one other plant for the game mechanics to work.
Here are some examples of good companion plants for common garden vegetables:
Tomatoes: basil, marigolds, onions, garlic, parsley
Peppers: basil, marigolds, onions, garlic, oregano
Cucumbers: beans, corn, peas, radishes, dill
Carrots: onions, leeks, garlic, chives
Lettuce: carrots, radishes, strawberries, chives
Beans: corn, cucumbers, peas, potatoes, radishes
Broccoli: chamomile, dill, marigolds, onions, spinach
Cabbage: celery, chamomile, dill, onions
Corn: beans, cucumbers, melons, peas, pumpkins, squash
Radishes: beans, carrots, cucumbers, peas
